Assistant Medical Biller/Coder

Position Summary

A growing medical consulting organization is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Assistant Medical Biller/Coder to support medical billing, coding, and administrative operations. This position plays a key role in ensuring accurate coding, claim preparation, reimbursement processing, and medical record review. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of medical terminology, healthcare documentation, insurance requirements, and billing best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Billing & Coding

  • Assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on provider documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation, submission, and tracking of insurance claims.
  • Review medical records for completeness, accuracy, and coding compliance.
  • Verify patient demographics and insurance information.
  • Follow up on outstanding claims and assist with denial management and appeals.
  • Post payments, adjustments, and remittances accurately.
  • Maintain compliance with payer guidelines, HIPAA regulations, and industry standards.

Medical Records Support

  • Organize, review, and maintain medical records and related documentation.
  • Assist with gathering and compiling records for case reviews and audits.
  • Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and properly filed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and organizational information.
  • Support healthcare professionals with documentation and record-management needs.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Communicate professionally with insurance companies, healthcare providers, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Respond to billing inquiries and requests for information.
  • Perform data entry, filing, scanning, and document management tasks.
  • Generate reports related to billing activity, collections, and accounts receivable.
  • Assist with general office duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in Healthcare Administration, Medical Billing & Coding, or related field preferred.
  • Medical Billing and Coding certification (CPC, CCS, CCA, or similar) preferred.
  • One or more years of experience in medical billing, coding, or healthcare administration preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with EHR/EMR systems and medical billing software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
